The Ashe County Arts Council is reaching out across our county lines to
showcase visual artists from the surrounding counties in an exhibit appropriately entitled Across County Lines. Artists were invited from neighboring counties Alleghany, Watauga and Wilkes as well as Grayson County in Virginia and Johnson County in Tennessee.
Following the success of the regional juried exhibit, The Best of the Ridge, the Arts Council gallery committee decided to invite artists to a special show to increase the visibility of regional artists. West Jefferson and the Ashe Arts Center are increasingly becoming known as a “hub” for the arts in the High Country and the Ashe County Art Council is committed to supporting artists from all areas of the High Country.
Approximately 50 pieces were submitted by 19 artists in a variety of media. Artwork range from paintings to fiber arts to three-dimensional framed works, metal sculptures and large pottery. The exhibit will be on display through April 10.
Artists include: Diane Allen, Kevin Beck, Bill Bentley, Deb Donaldson, June K-ton Furlow, Joyce Gryder, Phyllis Haile, Evalynn Halsey, David and Sherry Hoffman, Jana Jones, Ellie Kirby, Kathye Mendes, Temple Reece, Holly Soukup, Barbara Sturgill, Norma Suddreth, Marianne Sugges, Richard Tumblston and Bill Wysor.
The Ashe Arts Center in West Jefferson is open Monday-Friday 9am-4pm. For more information please call 336-846-ARTS or www.ashecountyarts.org
