Downtown West Jefferson Has the First Crawl of the Year.

What could be better than an evening in the mountains where the weather is cool, the people are friendly and artistic talent is abundant.  The Ashe County Arts Council will again sponsor the Friday evening Gallery Crawl on June 13 in downtown West Jefferson. The June Gallery Crawl will feature thirteen galleries, studios and shops.

West Jefferson’s eclectic group of shops, galleries and studios represents a large and varied group of artists who will be displaying their latest creations. Participating in the June 13th crawl will be:  Acorn Gallery, Ashe Arts Center, Ashe Custom Framing and Gallery,

Backstreet Beads, Bohemia, Broomfields Gallery, Originals Only Gallery,

River Rock Gallery, R.T. Morgan Art Gallery, Smart Gallery, Spin a Yarn…Weave a Web,

Stephen Shoemaker Studio and Tin Roof Gallery.

Art lovers will find on the streets of Downtown West Jefferson one of a kind paintings and photography, pottery, stained glass, quilts, fiber arts, jewelry, wood-turned art, and much more.  Crawlers are invited to stroll the streets, visit the galleries, see the new art panels in Jefferson Station and take advantage of the downtown eateries.

Special events during the crawl will be the Shadow of the Hills, the annual exhibit by the Blue Ridge Art Clan at the Ashe Arts Center; Smart Gallery will feature watercolorist, Kathryn Feierabend; Acorn Gallery will feature Chocolate Art. New River Winery will be presenting three new wines, Seyval, Baco Noir, and Nathan’s Creek White, at Bohemia Gallery.  The wines are made from grapes that were grown locally in Ashe County.  On Saturday night, the Arts Council will be sponsoring the Coffee House Talent Night at the West Jefferson Methodist Church Fellowship Hall featuring Lisa Baldwin and Dave Haney, Kay Borkowski and Michael Bell, Anna Lankford and Deeper Roots and the hostesses for the evening The Steel Magnolias.  Tickets are available at the door.

Join your friends and neighbors for the first Gallery Crawl of the season. The crawl is from 5 pm-8 pm and admission is free.  Maps will be available at the Ashe Arts Center in West Jefferson and at other participating galleries and shops or online at www.ashecountyarts.org.
