The Ashe County Arts Council welcomes the fifth annual Ola Belle Reed Song Writer’s Retreat to the Ashe Civic Center on April 17-19. Songwriter and musician Cathy Fink along with Tom Paxton, Alice Gerrard, Jon Weisberger and Marcy Marxer will lead a weekend of songwriting workshops, individual instruction and critique, student showcase and an evening concert with instructors to fill a weekend of song-writing inspiration.
The Writer’s Retreat goals are to honor Ashe County’s Ola Belle Reed as a songwriter, storyteller and humanist who used her craft and art to build community and love, to connect traditional music and story to contemporary songwriting that builds on that tradition, and to use Ola Belle’s songs and life as a springboard for teaching songwriting with intention.
Tuition includes instruction and hospitality Friday through Sunday. It does not include accommodations or meals. For lodging suggestions, go to the Ashe County Chamber of Commerce website ashechamber.com
A limited number of partial financial assistance stipends are available on a first come-first serve basis. To apply for assistance, send a letter describing your experience, background, financial need and aspirations for the Song Writer’s Retreat.
